Launch of IBSA World Blind Championships held
Logistique helped to launch their big event for 2010 recently in Hereford.
The 2010 IBSA World Blind Football Championships will be held at thePoint4, the new international standard sports centre at The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford, between 14th and 22nd August.
The event - the largest disability football event ever to be held in England – will act as a direct qualifier for the Paralympics in London 2012 and will showcase the very best blind footballers from across the world as they compete for the most prestigious prize in the Sport.
Ten countries, including hosts England and current World Champions Argentina, will join France, Spain, Brazil, Uruguay and four other qualifiers (yet to be confirmed but likely to include China and South Africa) at the Championships next August. The teams will be drawn into groups of five, with England's first group game to be played on the opening evening, Saturday 14th August at thePoint4. The draw for the tournament will be made next April at thePoint4 when England will take on Germany for a final pre-Championship warm up match. Tickets for Championship will be available next year.
As well as the tournament itself, The FA, Herefordshire County FA, Herefordshire County and City Council, and the Royal National College for the Blind will be working to create a lasting legacy from the event – including a raised awareness of issue around disability, the benefits of sport for all sectors of the community, and increased opportunities for participation. Schools, community groups, businesses and volunteers from across the West Midlands will be invited to take part in a number of sporting, educational and cultural events leading up to, and during the tournament. Opportunities will be promoted on the 2010 website, and via an interactive roadshow.
The launch saw players from Hereford United take on the England Blind team in a penalty shoot out with England winning by 1-0.
Tournament Director, Jon Dutton said, "Blind 2010 promises to be a huge event for us and with the tournament acting as a direct qualifier for London 2012 then the pressure will be on to deliver a cracking event."

Pastures new for Poole Town
A new football ground could be created for Poole Town FC if potential funding proves viable.
The club has engaged specialist sports company Logistique to prepare a football development plan, business plan and to access funding.
Logistique will be consulting with Poole Town Football Club both its adult and junior sections along with Poole Borough Council, Dorset FA as well as other interested groups, over the next few weeks, to support a funding bid to the Football Foundation.
The Football Foundation is the UK's largest funder of grass roots football. It has delivered thousands of facility and community projects as well as free kit and safe goalposts, since its launch in July 2000.
Poole Town are looking into the possibility of relocating to Branksome Rec with the aim of securing a new fit for purpose stadia with modern facilities and multi use games areas for the wider community and for football development purposes.
Project lead Jon Dutton said: "We are pleased to have been approached by Poole Town to work with them on the delivery of this project which is a real mixture of participation and excellence.
"The club have outgrown their current home and along with the success of the first team the club has a vibrant junior and youth section which necessitates quality new community facilities."
Heywood nets further investment
Woodland Primary School in Heywood, Rochdale are celebrating after the successful award of Football Foundation funding worth £20,000 as part of a project to extend the community facilities available on the school site.
The project has been led by Logistique over the last two years and it has involved preparing and submitting all of the funding documentation and liaison with project partners, funders and the design team.
Specifically, the funding will see the refurbishment of an existing hard surface multi-use games area being replaced by a state of the art third generation artificial turf surface complete with floodlights.
A variety of local community partners have already signed up to use the facility including Heywood Rangers JFC, Heywood St James FC, Rochdale Community Sports Trust and RoFTRA. The new facility will also provide open access play opportunities for local youngsters.
Project Manager Philip Heap stated that "It has been a long time in the making, but finally Woodland Primary School have been successful in obtaining a grant to develop and transform part of their outdoor space into a community hub.
"The project has tangible links to the £10m Heywood Sports Culture and Leisure Village and is yet another fillip for the residents for Heywood."
Project Insight: Logistique goes PRINCE 2
Logsitque's key staff, Jon Dutton, Phil Heap and Stephen Brown recently attended a PRINCE2 Foundation course and all passed with flying colours!
The three-day intensive course was part funded through a leadership grant from Business Link.
Prince2 is a de facto standard used extensively by the UK Government and is widely recognised and used in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally. The method PRINCE2 is in the public domain, offering non-proprietorial best practice guidance on project management. PRINCE2 is a registered trademark of OGC. The key features of PRINCE2 are:
• Its focus on business justification;
• A defined organisation structure for the project management team;
• Its product-based planning approach;
• ts emphasis on dividing the project into manageable and controllable stages;
• Its flexibility to be applied at a level appropriate to the project.
Managing Director Jon Dutton said: "We are finding that more and more of our local authority clients are using PRINCE2 to manage their projects. We felt that whilst we have had extensive experience of project management attaining the industry recognised standard was important. Our Principal Consultant, Phil Heap, performed so well that he finished top of the class in the exam!"
Project Insight: FA mixed football experimental paper
Following their work with the FA on the Amputee Risk Assessment paper earlier in the year, Logistique have recently completed a risk assessment on mixed football.
At present, FA Rule C4 states: "Save for matches in a playing season in the age ranges Under-7, Under-8, Under-9, Under-10 and Under-11 players in a match must be of the same gender".
This rule has the effect of prohibiting boys and girls aged 12 or over from participating in the same match and the rule has been reviewed twice before in the last 6 years. In 2001, the result of one of those reviews was that The FA extended the age range from under-10s to under-11s.
The FA conducted extensive research on the issue. Young players and the general public were consulted through TheFA.com, the 'Your Game Your Say' questionnaire (10,000 responses), the FA Youth Survey (5,000 responses), and independent research at FA Girls' Centres of Excellence.
The FA has also sought advice from other sports including rugby and hockey and consulted international football governing bodies such as UEFA and FIFA and the Football Associations of Italy, USA, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Holland, France, Germany, Wales and Scotland.
Leagues and their member clubs will not be encouraged to actively recruit girls for this as The FA Women's Committee still wish to see the majority of girls remain in the female player pathway.
Particular areas that have been discussed are the social, technical, psychological and physical aspects as well as demand, injuries, facilities and welfare matters.
It is hoped that a fully consulted proposal can then be reached based on facts and evidence and can be brought to The FA Council for their recommendations
