FA Futsal Youth Festival 2010

FA Futsal Youth Festival 2010

Logistique preparing to deliver two days of Futsal next weekend.

This weekend sees Logistique deliver this year’s FA Futsal Youth Festival when some of the best young Futsal teams in the country will converge on the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

It starts on the Saturday, with the U10 professional club academies and U12s English Schools Festival before Sunday's action consists of the U14s and U16s Youth Festival.

This is the fourth Festival to have been staged by The FA, after growing the awareness and understanding of Futsal across England. A particularly important area that The FA has focused upon is developing the game within schools and young people. Subsequently, The Festival, supported by UMBRO, was established to provide a national showcase event that could inspire young people to take up and play Futsal on a regular-basis.

Entry to The Festival this year has been through Regional Festivals around the country, with most teams entering the regional stages after qualifying through local county competitions and festivals. Those teams that won the Regional Festivals were then awarded a place at the National Festival.

The underlying aim of The FA National Youth Futsal Festival is to act as a catalyst to stimulate and support the ongoing youth development of Futsal across the country and whilst it may not necessarily lead to an increase or improvement in young Futsal players, it can play a pivotal role in encouraging schools, County FAs and other partners to establish sustainable Futsal development programmes that ensure Futsal is played by young people throughout the rest of the year.

However, putting the serious elements of the long-term development of Futsal to one-side – there is no doubting that The FA National Youth Futsal Festival remains an extremely fun and enjoyable day for everyone involved, particularly for the young players.

Phil Heap, said, "Our role is to coordinate the football side of the day and as ever we anticipate the usual challenges that any complex event brings. Whilst in reality there could only be eight winners of their respective categories, all 900 players will walk away from Sheffield each with a participant’s medal and memories of a great event."

Partially Sighted team win Four Nations tournament in Hereford.

England 2-1 Republic Of Ireland
Four Nations Partially Sighted Tournament
4-6 June 2010

England won the Four Nations Partially Sighted tournament on Sunday, with a gutsy display against a Republic Of Ireland team that had already beaten them in the opening game of the event.

England’s quest for revenge began in the worst possible way though, with the Irish team taking the lead after only 30 seconds of the game with a goal from the impressive Gerard Prendergast.

England goalkeeper Brendan Dix was kept busy and made several quality saves to ensure that England stayed within touching distance of their opponents.

As the first half progressed, England had chances through Kevin Price and Chris Holland but Ireland keeper Robert Vaughan was as impressive as his English counterpart in a tight and edgy affair.

With the score at 1-0 in favour of the Irish at half time, England Manager Graham Keeley rallied his troops, but for all of their attacking guile they could not unlock the Irish defence.

Entering the last quarter of the game it looked as though Republic Of Ireland would once again hold off the England team and emerge as the tournament champions but they had not accounted for the grit and determination that the largely untried team line-up were about to show.

With five minutes of the game remaining Kevin Price poked a shot home to level the match but the drama was far from over. Price had earlier been booked for England and as the team accumulated five fouls any further foul would have resulted in a long penalty to the Irish.

Then. with the game looking like it would go into extra time, England managed to find a gap in the Irish defence and Danny Gauden struck what was to be the winning goal.

England survived a nervous final three minutes but held on with the highly impressive Chris Holland at the heart of everything that England did.

The final whistle saw scenes of jubilation for an England team that were comprehensively beaten in their opening match against Republic Of Ireland but who had fought back with three wins in three days against the National VI League team, Spain and then the final victory over the Irish.

In the day's other game Spain beat British Blind Sports, National Visually Impaired League team on penalty kicks after the match finished in a thrilling eight goal draw.
